We all eventually need a break from the daily grind. And well, to be frank, one of the best ways to recover from the monotonous drone of city life is to head out of town to experience life in a different town. Pinehurst is a historic golf resort located in Moore County, North Carolina. While a lot of people consider Pinehurst golf vacations to be the main purpose of visiting the town, there are actually a lot of other points of interest to check out in order to fully experience the town itself, rather than the sport of golf. After all, not everyone likes golf — sometimes, they simply want to see what all the fuss is about.
Sandhills Horticultural Gardens
The Sandhills Horticultural Gardens are maintained by horticulture majors at the Sandhills Community College. There are currently ten gardens along with numerous natural areas where tourists can reconnect with and appreciate nature. It’s a great place to go to if you just want a place to sit and enjoy the scenery. The best part is that admission here is free.
Camelot Playground
This area features two baseball fields and one basketball court. The playground is mostly covered by trees, thus keeping the equipment from becoming too hot to use during the summer. As with all standard parks, the Camelot Playground also has barbeque and picnic areas.
Reservoir Park Lake
If you’re yearning to go fishing, then the Reservoir Park lake should suit your needs. The lake offers boating and fishing spots for tourists. The park also features several shaded picnic areas as well as a jogging trail that’s also shaded from the sun. The area also serves as a great place to see occasional wildlife.
The Village Wine Shop
For those who need a drink, or those who simply want to check out what the town’s beverages are like, this is the place to visit. With a welcoming atmosphere and an equally welcoming staff, coupled with frequent wine tasting events, what’s not to like here?
Rassie Wicker Park
This park features a splash pad, about 5 kilometers of pavement to walk upon, an outdoor hockey rink, some tennis courts, and even an arboretum — an exclusive botanical collection of trees. This park serves as both a recreation center as well as a tourist spot. This is the perfect place to go for those who maintain active lifestyles.
Culinary Tours of the Pines
What’s a vacation without food? Whatever it is, it isn’t complete. The Culinary Tours of the Pines is a tour that allows guests to sample some of the best food that Pinehurst has to offer. These tours come in varying time periods that cater to most types of schedules, though their establishment usually operates from the morning until the afternoon, so plan your day accordingly.
While it’s undeniable that the golf resort in Pinehurst is the main attraction, it doesn’t fully capture what the village is truly about. If you visit the town just for the golf resort, that’s fine. But if you truly want to experience the town for what it is, then you’re encouraged to give these venues a visit.
